It all started with me spending 2 years (1994-1995) as a consultant with Alias when doing my PhD at the University of Toronto. Back then we implemented my particle research into Power Animator. That was a success and Alias who was at that point called Alias|wavefront was trying to hire me full-time then. But I decided to do a post-doc in Paris and Helsinki instead. However, I returned to Alias|wavefront in 1997 in their Seattle office. Why? Because Seattle is/was a cool town. And the Seattle office was full of mathematicians. I worked on subdivision officially but worked on the side on fluids and diffraction. That resulted in three SIGGRAPH papers. I also spent time at the University of Washington. In 2003 I left Seattle for Toronto as Alias closed their office in Seattle. Back in Toronto I worked on Nucleus and other stuff. I got the technical achievement award from SIGGRAPH in 2005. And two Academy Awards in 2006 and 2008. Autodesk is a fair and a good company. But our paths diverged. So there you have it. I will miss my beloved MAYA. I spend my time these days at the University of Toronto and travelling when I get invited to give talks.
I am actively looking for other opportunities. I live in Toronto, Canada.
These were a good twenty years. Thanks Alias, Alias|wavefront, Alias and Autodesk.
